A £13m park-and-ride car park is to be created near Aberdeen Airport after the plans were given the go-ahead by city councillors, the Press & Journal reports. The 999 space parking facility on the city’s western outskirts will help ease congestion for thousands of visitors and commuters travelling into Aberdeen. It will be built on farmland south of the Argyll Road and Dyce Drive junction after planning committee members gave the project their unanimous backing at a meeting this week.
Local authority officials said that the city’s third park-and-ride site will act as a catalyst for future development in the area and help end gridlock at the Haudagain roundabout. A 1640ft dual carriageway will be built to link to the A96 Aberdeen-Inverness road and the existing junction between Dyce Drive and Argyll Road, where it will also meet the city’s planned bypass. It is not clear how operators will block those using the airport, particularly passengers, from parking in the facility.
