£150m expansion plans at Bristol Airport have been recommended for approval by planning officers. A 170 page report on the application, which would see the airport double in size to accommodate up to 10m passengers a year, including expanding the terminal, yet more airport parking and an airport hotel, will go before the North Somerset Council's South Area Committee at a special meeting next Wednesday (March 3).
The report recommends approval of the application subject to 67 conditions and a legal agreement between the airport and Council. This agreement would secure around £10m in financial contributions from the airport for schemes including improved road links to the airport, new bus services, a 10 million a year passenger cap and limits on night flights.
Anti-expansion campaigners have asked the council to reject the plans, saying that they will lead to massive rises in noise, traffic and pollution.
