The new boss at Edinburgh Airport has confirmed that controversial drop-off charges are here to stay, the Scotsman reports. Kevin Brown told the newspaper making drivers pay £1 to drop off or collect passengers was ‘the right thing to do' and said that passenger representatives backed the move.
He made the comments after a meeting of the airport's consultative committee on Monday, which he said accepted the need for the new charges, set to be introduced in November. He said that there had been no demand for a vote on the issue by members of the committee, which includes councillors, consumer watchdogs and community and travel trade representatives.
Mr Brown told the newspaper: ‘People understood the need for what we are doing. They had the opportunity to question us and they understood the need to do it.’ When asked whether the controversial charges are here to stay, he said that the charge was needed to raise cash for investment in the airport, adding that there was ‘no alternative'.
