Gatwick flights hit by baggage failure
02.08.10
Thousands of passengers taking flights from Gatwick faced delays on Saturday when baggage machines broke down, the Daily Mail reports. 40 departing flights were delayed by up to 4 hours by the problems, which affected belts moving luggage from check-in to departure areas at both terminals, causing long queues.
An airport spokesman told the newspaper delays were a result of the problems that occurred 'off and on' between 03:00 and 06:00 on Saturday morning. The belt failures had a greater effect because of the volume of passengers travelling during one of the busiest periods of the year.
