APH highlight airport and airline check in time differences
12.08.10
Gatwick based airport parking and hotels company APH has put together a table highlighting the different check-in times at UK airports. The research also shows which airlines offer online and self-service check-in, and at which airports.
The airport parking company's research found passengers flying with easyJet and Ryanair have the longest time to check-in online or at the airport - from 60 days to 2 hours and 15 days to 1 hour respectively. Iceland Express also allows travellers to check-in from 60 days before the flight, with Monarch Airlines and Wizzair allowing 7 days.
Airlines such as Brussels Airlines, Flybe, and SAS, allow passengers to check-in 1 hour before the flight with BMI even allowing 30 minutes for many flights. However some airlines change the times depending on the destination passengers are flying to. Those flying with Qatar have 36 hours to check-in, but with the same airline to the USA they have only 24 hours. Customers flying to Geneva with bmibaby also have only 24 hours, whereas to other destinations they can check-in up to 7 days before.
Not all the airports offer self-service check-in kiosks with apparently none available at Blackpool, Durham Tees and Luton airports. Virgin Atlantic, Flybe and Norwegian are the only airlines at Gatwick that offer a self-service check-in kiosk whereas there are 13 airlines using the kiosks at Heathrow.
Nick Caunter, Managing Director of APH says: ‘It is easy to assume airlines and airports all have the same check-in times but our research shows there is a wide range. The information is available in the ‘Know Before You Go’ section of the website at www.aph.com/checkintimes.'
