Seven jailed over Heathrow drug smuggling attempt

Seven men have received long jail sentences after trying to smuggle cocaine with a street value of £4.5m in to the UK through Heathrow. The gang that included baggage workers at the hub who were to help smuggle 12 kg of cocaine from Brazil on September 27 last year.

Mark Oliver, 30, Malcolm Bax, 31, Andrew Robinson, 46, and Michael Hopkins, 51, were found guilty of knowingly importing the drugs. Anthony Rouse, 53, Charles Oliver, 29, and Anthony Cenci, 24, admitted to the same charges at Croydon Crown Court.

Mr Rouse, of Addison Way, Uxbridge, was the mastermind of the gang, who recruited the help of brothers Mark and Charles Oliver. They knew people who worked at a baggage handling company at the airport and who could help them with the operation.

Mr Rouse was jailed for 13 years, while Mark Oliver, was jailed for 19 years and his brother Charles Oliver was jailed for 12 years. Malcolm Bax, of Clandon Avenue, Egham, who was a supervisor at an airport baggage unit, was jailed for 15 years. Andrew Robinson was jailed for 13 years. Michael Hopkins was jailed for 9 years and Anthony Cenci, a baggage handler was jailed for 10 years.
