Passengers looking for the best airport shopping deals will be disappointed at Heathrow Airport according to a new study for shopping comparison site Kelkoo. Their analysis of prices for a range of products at 10 European airports showed Heathrow offered the lowest discounts.
Compared with high street prices, the savings at Heathrow were just 3.1%. The average saving was 6.2%, with Lyon offering the best discounts - an average of 11.9% better than the high street. Gatwick was the fifth-best, with an average saving of 5% on the high street.
The survey looked at the prices of 22 products, including food, drink, fashion and electrical items. Heathrow and Gatwick were the most expensive for luxury, fashion and electrical goods. Spanish airports had the highest prices for health and beauty products, and wines and spirits were dearest in France. A Panasonic FZ38 Digital Camera ranged in price from £267.85 at Heathrow to £137.58 in Lyon, and a Dolce & Gabbana shoulder bag was priced at £1020 in Heathrow and £696.07 in Rome.
