Richmond Council has called upon BAA to ensure repair works at Heathrow are completed on time in order to minimise disruption to residents living under the flight path. The airport will suspend runway alternation for a six-week period from next month while essential works are carried out on its taxiways. The council has warned residents that this means they will have to ensure ‘all-day noise for 6 weeks’.
Councillor Virginia Morris, Richmond’s member for environment, said: ‘We will be watching BAA as the relief offered by runway alternation is priceless to local people. We understand why BAA has to do the work but there is no doubt it will give residents an unwelcome taste of what would have happened had we not won the fight to stop mixed mode. It is essential the works do not overrun past the 6 weeks BAA has said it will need to complete the repairs.’
