A BA pilot hit the wrong button - and made passengers think they were about to crash into the sea, the Sun reports. The pilot set off an automated announcement which told passengers: ‘This is an emergency. We may shortly need to make an emergency landing on water.’ The 275 passengers flying from Heathrow to Hong Kong were over the North Sea at the time !
The newspaper reports that BA cabin crew then ran down the aisles to tell terrified passengers that it was a mistake. One told the Sun: ‘We were all terrified, we thought we were going to die. They said the pilot hit the wrong button because they were so close together. I can't think of anything worse than being told your plane's about to crash.’ BA apologised for the ‘undue distress’ caused by the error.
