BA is to have one of its Boeing 777-200 aircraft sprayed with fuel saving paint after successful trials of the coating on an Airbus A318 serving its New York - London City route.
Rising fuel costs have caused airlines to seek ways of cutting plane weight and improving efficiency, with initiative including adding wing tips and building the whole plane from lighter composite materials. The coating, made by TripleO, reduces debris build up on planes during flights and so improves aerodynamics. BA hopes to save over £100,000 during the trial, after which it may add it to other planes.
