Another rant from Sir Stelios for easyJet

20.08.10

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou is ranting at easyJet again, warning he will 'immediately terminate' a brand agreement unless it stops using non-easyJet planes to operate flights, thisismoney reports. In a letter Sir Stelios said the airline he founded and (with his family) still owns a 38% stake in had wet leased planes from Gatwick based airline Titan Airways.

The newspaper reports that Sir Stelios' holding company easyGroup told the airline: 'We strongly believe that for an easyJet customer who has booked a flight on the easyJet website to be confronted at the airport by an aircraft branded and operated by Titan, an airline with minimal name recognition, causes serious damage to the easyJet brand. The customers who book with easyJet expect to be flown in an easyJet plane.'

They warned easyGroup is taking advice on its right to 'immediately terminate the brand licence as a result of this breach', adding: 'We put you on notice that, in the event that such breaches do not cease immediately (i.e. by the end of today), easyJet should expect to receive notice terminating the brand licence without further warning.'

It is unclear whether the use of a non easyJet plane to operate an easyJet flight would be grounds to terminate the agreement. Sir Stelios made a similar threat over the airline's punctuality problems earlier this summer, only to be told the they did not constitute grounds for termination.
