Manchester Airport is in talks with airlines to help - and thefore benefit from - the anticipated chaos should staff at BAA's UK airports strike later this month. Airlines have been offered the opportunity to transfer flights from strike affected BAA airports to Manchester, which could see an extra 100,000 passengers a day passing through its terminals if they take up the offer.
Strikes at Heathrow, Stansted, Southampton, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh airports could be called for the busy bank holiday weekend. Manchester Airport has offered airlines the chance to move their flights ahead of an expected announcement of strike dates early next week.
