Ryanair carried 5.51m passengers in May, up 9% on last year. Its load factor was up by 1 percentage point to 81%. In the rolling 12 months to the end of May the airline carried 59.6m passengers, with an average load factor of 82%.
An spokesman for the budget airline said that it carried 3 times the UK and Europe passengers of British Airways in May, with its passengers up 9%, while BA’s passengers fell by 8% to 1.7 million. He added: 'Ryanair’s continued growth underlines that passengers will no longer tolerate the high fares and fuel surcharges imposed by flag carrier airlines.'
